About Above and Below Solitaire
Above and Below Solitaire uses two decks and begins with a face-up indicator card. Four same-suit foundations grow from the rank above that indicator, while four others develop from the rank below it, with the sequences wrapping around between ace and king.
Cards pass from the stock to a waste pile, and the top waste card can support a foundation or one of four tableau piles. The unusual split between ascending and descending foundations makes each useful card choice matter, while the indicator rank offers a special way to clear matching cards.
How to Play Above and Below Solitaire
Build the four upper foundations in their required suit order and place cards onto the four lower foundations in the opposite rank direction.
Move the exposed waste card to a suitable foundation or tableau pile, and move only one card at a time from a tableau pile.
Send a waste card matching the indicator rank directly to that indicator pile when possible.
After dealing through the stock, gather the waste back into the stock for one additional pass, and shift cards between foundations when helpful.
Tips & Tricks
- 1Watch the indicator rank closely, since matching cards have a direct destination instead of competing for ordinary tableau space.
- 2Use tableau placements to preserve access to useful waste cards, rather than filling a pile without considering its next exposed card.
- 3Move cards to foundations steadily, but keep enough flexibility to connect both the upward and downward suit sequences.
